    Statement of Work

An Iraqi American artist, Phoenix-based artist Diyar Al Asadi’s appreciation of freedom comes from their experiences as a refugee, fleeing war-torn Iraq in 2004. The work details the events of September 11th, 2001 as flames consumed the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. However, as the safety of a nation was deeply wounded, the Statue of Liberty continued to stand as a symbol of freedom, rising above the ashes as a beacon of hope; a guardian angel. Diyar’s latest piece, “Angel of New York”, is a tribute to the fragility of freedom viewed through immigrant eyes.
