Thomas Rogér
Family Member
Thomas Rogér was one of the founders and past president of Families of September 11 Inc., the largest of the 9/11 family groups. His 24-year-old daughter, Jean Rogér, was a flight attendant on American Airlines Flight 11. Rogér was also vice president and project executive for Gilbane Building Company, where he worked for 33 years. Gilbane Building Company is a nationally recognized construction management firm that has built such noted national memorial projects as the Vietnam Memorial and the World War II Memorial. Rogér has more than 49 years of experience in construction management of large building projects. Prior to retirement in 2017, his last working assignment for Gilbane was serving as project director for the 13-year, $1.2 billion program for the complete reconstruction and/or renovation of the public schools in Rochester, New York. Previously, he served as the project director for a similar $1.4 billion school-modernization program in New Haven, Connecticut.
Since early 2002, Rogér has been actively involved with the development of the Memorial, serving as a member of the families’ advisory council of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and a charter member of the real estate, construction, and operations board of trustees’ committee for the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
Rogér earned a BA in electrical engineering and economics from Brown University and a law degree from the University of San Diego, and he is a retired member of the bar of the state of Massachusetts. Rogér is married and lives with his wife, Punky, in both Rochester, New York, and Hilton Head, South Carolina. They have a son named Jim, who is married, has two young children named Oscar and Jean, and lives in Rochester, New York, where he is a practicing oral surgeon.
