The Tribeca Film Festival kicks off today. The well-known movie celebration was founded by 9/11 Memorial Board members Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal. The festival, still going after 10 years, was created to help revitalize the lower Manhattan community. Businesses and residents have returned and the festival continues to attract crowds, although the founders didn’t plan on making it a yearly endeavor.

”We were really thinking short -term,” Jane Rosenthal said in the New York Daily News. “It was a way for New Yorkers to come together, to emphasize our sense of community. We honestly didn’t realize we’d have to do it all again!”

The festival is a cultural icon, attracting top movies and talent from around the world. Click here for more details.
